DTC Expert Series

PROJECT: Video interview series

ROLE: Organizer, Interviewer

As a college professor in the Digital Technology and Culture (DTC) Department at Washington State University (WSU), I spearheaded the DTC Expert Series: live Zoom discussions with industry professionals and researchers in graphic design, web design, UX design, social media, data visualization, communications, video gaming, animation, systems design, music, and more.

While some of the video recordings are only available on WSU’s internal Panopto video server (which requires a current WSU network login), many are available on YouTube by consent. Shown here in alphabetical order:

  • Ritwik Dey, Design Director at Medium
  • Masha Ioveva, Growth Product Design Manager at Instagram
  • Dave Kanter, a Senior Associate in Experience Technology at Publicis Sapient
  • Dr. Vincent Rone, an epic ludomusicology (video game music) researcher
  • Kailee Scales, global communicator and strategist, and former Managing Director of Black Lives Matter Global Network
  • Cliff Washington, founder and chief brand officer of Duke & Jo, a boutique branding and design consultancy in NYC

Other guests included:

  • Lissette Bernal-Cruz, Director of Organizational System and Performance for the Governor’s Office of Storm Recovery in New York
  • Kate Greene, founder and CEO of Owl’s Head Solutions, a boutique creative agency
  • Rob Kershaw, Director of Public Workshops for StoryCenter
  • David Lennon, the Engineering Lead at Proletariat, Inc., for the highly-rated battle royale video game Spellbreak
  • Manual Lima, Design Lead and Startup Mentor at Google, and internationally-acclaimed data visualization expert
  • Beth Schäfermann, Senior Manager of Product Management at Publicis Sapient
  • Chris Stauch, Managing Director at Deloitte Digital, Seattle
  • Kenneth Tsai, founder and CEO of Dot Connector, an internationally-acclaimed AR/VR studio

To assemble this array of guests, I relied on both personal connections as well as direct cold-calls to individuals whose designs or research I had seen and admired.
