It was first published in 2009. Through facts, data, and Kristof\u2019s trademark journalistic storytelling, the book broke new ground in explaining how, around the world, \u201cthe greatest unexploited economic resource is the female half of the population.\u201d<\/p><p>As an international nonprofit that works to improve women\u2019s health and empowerment, <a href=\"https:\/\/tordevries.net\/portfolio\/digital\/engenderhealth\/\">EngenderHealth<\/a> was pleased but not surprised to be mentioned in <em>Half the Sky<\/em>. The organization had occasionally been named in Kristof\u2019s regular column for the New York Times.<\/p><p>Immediately after the book was published, EngenderHealth produced an online \u201cReader&#8217;s Companion\u201d to the book. Each chapter was addressed with additional facts and stories from EngenderHealth\u2019s experts.
